2002 AC Schnitzer ACS7

2002 AC Schnitzer ACS7
With the new 7-series, BMW heralds the new epoch of the luxury saloon. True to the motto "Driving pleasure", the 7-series - known internally as the E65 and E66 - takes the standards for driving pleasure into a new dimension. Outwardly a purely luxury saloon, under the bonnet lurks high performance technology of sports car class.

AC Schnitzer, renowned for its sports-oriented customization of BMW"s, has already developed the first special accessories for the new 7-series and is currently working on a complete range which will celebrate its world premiere at the 2002 Geneva Motor Show.

In the development work, the AC Schnitzer designers and engineers faced a huge challenge, as the aerodynamic components for the new 7-series had to customize not only an already incredibly sophisticated design but one which also forms the styling basis for the future BMW models.

One significant innovation is the variable design of the aerodynamic components. Depending on personal taste, the customer can choose between the sports variants or the exclusive Chromeline Design. Both versions are stunning in their sporting style and outwardly reflect the high performance technology of the vehicle. Front spoiler, side skirts and rear skirt insert are painted in body colour in the sports variant. In the Chromeline variant, these components are supplemented by extra chromed inserts. The AC Schnitzer aerodynamic kit is complemented by the rear spoiler, which picks up the styling cues of the C-pillar and lends a unique, sporting and harmonious note to the entire vehicle rear.

The AC Schnitzer aerodynamic package is completed by the new sports mirror covers and a rear roof spoiler which makes the vehicle rear appear even wider. As well as the aesthetics which emphasise the modern, classic BMW styling language of the new 7-series, the AC Schnitzer aerodynamic conversion also achieves functional perfection. The downforce values, good even as standard, are improved on both front and rear axles.

Another challenge was - and is - the development of the sports rear silencer of V2A special steel with chromed tailpipe trim. As well as the technical development, attention was concentrated on design. Like its predecessor, a completely new look was created in trap-ment form (combination of trapezium and segment) in trapezoid form which is reserved exclusively for the new 7-series and integrates perfectly in the rear skirt insert.

To improve the driving dynamics still further in the 7-series, our engineers are currently working on the AC Schnitzer sports suspension components. The first step is a spring kit which lowers the vehicle by 35mm at the front and 25 mm at the rear.

AC Schnitzer racing alloys in lightweight multipiece design, in sizes 9.5J x 20" offset 20 with tyres size 245/45 R 20 on the front and 10.5J x 20" offset 15, 275/35 R 20 on the rear emphasise not only the technical sophistication of the vehicle but also the sporting ambitions of its driver. Alloy wheels from 17" to 19" are already available and hence offer the technically sophisticated customer further opportunities for personal individualisation. For the new 7-series AC Schnitzer recommends high performance tyres by Continental and Michelin.

In the interior, sports airbag steering wheels or velours foot mats are available, together with the characteristic AC Schnitzer aluminium pedals and foot rests. The AC Schnitzer refinement of the control unit for BMW's own "i-Drive system" provides the finishing touch in every sense.
